This Baluch rug was handwoven in Afghanistan during the early 20th century.
The field design is composed of a central axis of latch-hooked octagons surrounded by triangles, abstracted animals, and a single boteh that is encapsulated by an inner border of half octagons. The whole is framed by a large Turkmen line outer border. Nice contrast and tones for a Baluch rug with soft blues, rich lacquer reds, and white details which pops like stars on a clear night against the midnight blue ground.
This rug is in very good condition with even wear on the field; the edges have been reinforced for longevity. The pile is low, with a soft handle.
