This kilim was woven in the Caucasus during the late 19th century.
It features a field of stepped polygons and small diamonds in various shades of red and blue on a bright ivory ground. The pattern can be viewed in multiple way and the navy diamonds also form a central diamond. The ivory field is framed by jagged purple zigzags on the sides and polychrome triangles on the top and bottom and finished with thick bands of blue and red. May have been made as one side of a saddle bag. A small but impactful piece.
