This hooked rug was handcrafted in New England during the 19th century.
The large square hooked rug features a circular medallion with a central flying bird carrying a twig with berries in its mouth. Along the perimeter of the medallion are roses and four vases filled with flowers at a 45-degree angle. The whole is framed by a border of sticks each with a large leaf growing from its center. Thinly rendered vine work filled much of the rest of the open spaces between the pattering. The faded tones have diminished much of the contrast making it to distinguish some areas - most prominently the vases and roses around the medallion.
In good condition for its considerable, significant color fading with some light areas of staining (as pictured) Some small holes, and loose edging on the left side.
