This Shirvan rug was woven in the Caucasus during the late 19th century.
This stunning Shirvan is composed of a multicolored geometric design. The central design is a lattice pattern, with geometric blossoms in each honeycomb. notice the tiny comb motif throughout the blue field, and the many small shapes and symbols that fill in the negative space throughout. A uncharacteristically large main border is composed of multicolor diamond shapes and trapezoids containing stylized flower stems.
In fair condition, with some wear throughout; small areas where the brown dye has oxidized. Foundation is still intact. Signs of wear commensurate with considerable age of rug. Low pile, with an airy handle.
