Sivas prayer rug, handwoven in Turkey during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This jewel of a prayer rug features a peachy-pink mihrab, with a vase in the center, flanked by two columns, and a lamp hanging down from the top. The lamp represents the divine presence and paradise. Ornate cornices with complex curvilinear motifs frame the scene. The main border continues the complex floral forms with blossoms on a mustard yellow ground. Light blue and punchy red are used to sparingly great effect, filling in the details and brightening the design. Ivory and pink soften the rug and complete the color palette.
In very good condition, with a loose handle. Signs of wear consistent with age.
