This silk rug was woven in Egypt during the end of the 20th century.
This square rug features a concentric pattern of a variety of hieroglyphics, gods, astrological signs, and other symbols of ancient Egyptian mythology. Woven outside of Cairo for the tourist market, it has a wonderful quirkiness and just enough kitsch. Was acquired by an American family visiting Egypt in the 1980s and likely woven then or soon before.
