This Malayer rug was handwoven in western Iran during the first quarter of the 20th century (1900-1925).
It features an all over pattern of small botehs on a red field with substantial and stunning abrash, the natural striations that occur when wool is dyed in small batches. The five borders include larger scale geometric designs in blues and reds on ivory fields which provide a nice contrast to the smaller central design.
In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is thick and low, handle is sturdy.
