This vintage pictorial rug was woven in Isfahan in the 1980s following the Islamic Revolution.

The scene depicts two men and a woman sitting on a simple striped rug, smoking opium. The woman stares wantonly at the smoker as her companion (the drinker) looks upon her with jealousy. An intricate curvilinear border frames the scene. In perfect condition, with no signs of wear.

Pile is low and densely woven, with a sturdy handle. Pretty subversive subject matter in post revolution Iran.
