Worn Asafo Flag - 2'9 x 4'11

Regular price $450.00 Sale

This dynamic Asafo flag depicts two male figures advancing in unison, each holding a rifle, their synchronized movement emphasizing discipline, coordination, and collective strength. Rendered in hand-cut appliqué on a softly aged cotton ground, the scene draws directly on Asafo traditions of martial symbolism and civic defense.

At the right edge of the composition appears a stylized airplane, constructed from simplified geometric forms and accented with blue and red details. In Asafo visual language, modern machines such as aircraft function symbolically rather than literally, representing technological power, vigilance, and external forces encountered during the colonial and post-colonial period. The visual pairing of rifles and airplane underscores an assertion of readiness and control in the face of modern power.

The figures’ forward stride creates a strong sense of momentum across the open field, while the rifles act as both weapons and compositional anchors, visually linking the men to one another and to the broader narrative of strength and unity. A vivid red fringe frames the flag, its wear and irregularity attesting to its active life in procession, performance, and public display.
