This Kars rug was woven in the highlands of Eastern Anatolian during the middle of the 20th Century.

This expressive Kars rug from Eastern Anatolia brings together traditional village weaving with playful, almost naïve figural motifs. Set against a dark brown-black ground, the central row of soft pastel medallions is flanked by charming depictions of birds and pairs of human figures holding hands, giving the piece a narrative and whimsical character.

The palette of earthy browns, ivory, pale rose, and muted peach is softened by age, creating a warm and inviting patina. The pinkish border, filled with scattered rosettes, frames the design with quiet contrast, while the inclusion of the woven inscription “ALAN” adds a personal and unique touch which likely references either the weaver or a family name.

This rug bridges folk art and modern sensibility. Its minimal geometry and bold figural motifs resonate strongly with contemporary interiors, while its handmade irregularities and worn-in texture remind us of its pastoral origins.

In Very Good condition with even wear throughout the field.
