This Kurdish Yatak was handwoven in Eastern Anatolia during the late 19th century.
A vibrant and expressive Kurdish Anatolian Yatak, woven in the highland villages of Eastern Anatolia and originally intended as a sleeping or bedding rug. The format is classic with a warm, saturated red field filled with a rhythmic repeat of memling guls outlined in deep indigo and enlivened with saffron, ivory, moss green, and brick tones. The drawing is bold and spontaneous, full of angular hooked outlines and charming tribal irregularities typical of Kurdish village work.
The border system frames the composition beautifully, with small cruciform rosettes leading to a striking outer band in yellow, blue, brown, and red. The palette consists entirely of natural dyes, now softly patinated, and the red ground retains excellent vibrancy. Thick, tactile mountain wool and a dense, comfortable pile speak directly to its original function as a yatak.
