19th century Indian Jail dhurrie featuring a series rows of deep navy and bright white stripes which feather at each end in the central panel. Two skirt panels feature smaller alternating white and navy stripes broken up by two bright indigo blocks. These rugs were part of prison reform beginning in 19th century India.

The field is a rich raspberry color, nicely contrasted by the lighter pinks and creams of the cornices. The minor borders are composed of vine and leaf motifs, while the main border contains alternating blossoms in diamonds and cartouches.
