This Ersari Turkmen rug was woven during the first quarter of the 20th century in Northern Afghanistan. It features a traditional Ersari gül design with a soft palette of turqoise and indigo on a soft and faded brick red ground with accents of natural undyed brown and ivory wool. More skeletal and interconnected secondary gülsfill in the space between the main guls.

A vibrant rosette border on madder red is framed by ivory-ground reciprocal latch-hook motifs and intricate vine guards, adding rhythmic complexity to the composition.
