This vibrant Gabbeh was woven by the Qashqai during the 2nd quarter of the 20th century The design centers on bold concentric diamond medallions floating on a warm saffron field. The medallions are flanked by playful flowering shrubs and framed by a charming rosette border. The palette is exceptional: saturated indigo, terracotta, sky blue, and emerald green, all rendered in luminous natural dyes.

This Sultanabad was handwoven in Western Iran during the early 20th century. It features a central medallion that floats on an open and expansive golden camel ground. The field is bare other than the medallion and four cornices each mimicking a mirorred quadrant of the medallion. Framed by a main border of scrolling vegetation in pink, green, ivory and gold on an icy blue ground. Well-balanced with a desirable palette in a hard to come by size.

The reds on this rug have been “painted” over using fountain pens and ink, a practice common during the 1920s and often associated with Sarouk rugs of the period.
