Antique Khamseh Rug - 5'6 x 7'7

Regular price $1,850.00 Sale

This Khamseh rug was handwoven during the early 20th century.

It features two rows of interlocking polygons on a field that shifts from deep navy to mallard blue. Both the field and the polygons are chock filled with a variety of flora and fauna from shrubs and rosettes to birds, dogs and abstracted mythological creatures. The perimeter is composed of stepped pyramids and other architectural elements which jut into the field. What can only be described as two main borders, one of geometric rosettes and the other of diagonal stripes, sit side by side and encapsulate the composition. Spectacular tones of lacquer red, marigold, teal, forest green and cool ivory breathe life into the piece and are most vibrant in the borders due to their proximity and the pattern repeat.

In good condition, with visible wear throughout (as pictured). The foundation is intact and structurally sound as the weaker areas have been reinforced. Pile is low, with an airy but sturdy handle.
