This sewan design rug was woven in Afghanistan during the late 20th century.
This hybrid rug features a classic rendition of the sewan design usually found in the Caucasus but rendered in classic tonality and construction of the rugs found in Northern Afghanistan. The strong shield-like medallion is rendered here in a rich red, jade, and terracotta and framed by a powerful border of serrated leaves that alternate between navy and sky blue.
In very good condition with original double selvedge and some moments of folk repair. Both ends have been reinforced for longevity.
