This saddle blanket was woven in Tibet at the turn of the 20th century.  This rugs are known as a Makden and were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. This piece has been rendered in a beautiful butterfly format. It features two mirror image halves with floral forms growing out of stylized rocks on a vibrant orange ground.

This saddle blanket was woven in Tibet at the turn of the 20th century.  This rugs are known as a Makden and were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. This piece has been woven in two pieces and attached with cotton fabric. Two leather pieces have been woven in to attach the blanket to the animal. Each half features a mandala filled with four bats on an orange ground and a lively blue cloud motif where the halves interface.. The outer border features cloud-bands and auspicious symbols.

Makden were intended to be used under a horse saddle in Tibet. Each half features a central lotus with mountains symbolic or the terrestrial and clouds symbolic of the celestial. Each side features one small stupa motif which represents the nature of reality or the Dharma. cloudbands which are seen either as shooting rain or rays of lights in all directions. The main border design separated into cartouches that include and various auspicious symbols. Between each cartouche is an endless knot symbol. The minor borders feature the classic pearl motif and greek key motif.

This silk rug was handwoven during the 3rd quarter of the 20th century in Tianjin, China.It features a central scene of two mythological fenghuangs surrounding a red and pink peony on a yellow ground. The yellow oval is flanked by four prancing stags on a seafoam green ground. The whole is framed by a border of blossoming red and pink peonies on green vines and finished a thick block of navy around the perimeter.

This silk rug was handwoven during the 3rd quarter of the 20th century in Tianjin, China.It features a central medallion of delicate ivory flowers surrounded by a floral and serrated leaf fretwork in mutilple blues, pinks, red and green on a yellow ground. The whole is framed by a border of blossoming vines on a copper ground. Nicely finished with golden fringes adding further distinction.

Framed by nicely spaced main border of individual flowering branches of an ivory ground and finished with a solid block of navy around the perimeter. Peking rugs were created for the British market and the palette was utilized to emulate the look of blue and white Chinese porcelain which was extremely popular in the West.

This Deco rug was handwoven in Eastern China during the second quarter of the 20th century.  It features an open indigo field framed by a wide navy border. Flowering vases and branches that start in the border grow freely into the field unrestrained. A flower filled vase with a bird perched on one of its branches can be found near the center of the composition. Various birds and butterflies can also be seen frolicking amongst the flowers
