This Art Deco rug was handwoven in Tientsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This Deco rug features a detailed naturalistic design of distinct blossoming branches asymmetrically arranged on a bright red field. The eye-catching design features peonies, chrysanthemums, and fruit blossoms among flowers rendered in pinks, yellows, and blues. Subtle tone-on-tone flowers can be found under each blossom adding depth. Red is a shade most commonly associated with luck, joy, and prosperity in China.
In good condition with visible wear to the field exposing the cotton foundation (as pictured) but structurally sound. Pile is medium height, soft and plush, with a dense and heavy handle.
