A hand sewn vintage wool chapan or overcoat from the Turkmen of Northern Afghanistan.
A chapan which means "sewn together" in Turkic is an overcoat that is adorned with detailed threading comes in a variety of colors and patterns. It is traditionally worn throughout Central Asia.
This lovely chapan is crafted from faded blue wool. It is embellished with many lines of embroidery in purple, white, yellow, and green embroidery around its perimeter and up the sides. A few triangle patches are sewn in under the arms for a pop of interest and color. A similar purple is used for the lining.
