This Bakhshaish was handwoven during the 3rd quarter of the 20th century.
It is an exceptional and unusually square-format Bakhshaish rug, finely woven and boldly composed. Rather than the typical medallion or open-field layout, this piece features a dynamic tree-of-life design of stylized floral shrubs that rise in symmetrical rows from potted vases. Rendered in lively tones of rose, sky blue, saffron, and pistachio against a deeply oxidized walnut-brown ground.
The drawing is lyrical and expressive, with charming irregularities and a folk-art sensibility that defines the best tribal weaving from the region. A turquoise-ground border with angular rosettes and vinework provides a striking frame, echoing the compositional boldness of the field.
Finely knotted for type, this rug shows a deft hand, a rich natural dye palette, and a rare square-ish proportion more often found in earlier or custom-commissioned pieces. A true standout for collectors and designers alike—both sculptural in form and deeply rooted in tradition.
In very good condition with various professionally done repairs especially to areas of the oxidized brown.
