Heriz rug from Northwest Iran, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.
A slight variation on the classic Heriz features a geometric central medallion on a madder red ground. The design of the more boxy medallion throughout completely changes the composition giving this piece a unique feel. Soft pinks and gold work well with jewel-toned blues and greens that really sing. Framed by a main border of rosettes and serrated leaves, the border pattern breaks near the bottom edge on both sides where the weaver filled the space with various small rosettes like a patch of wildflowers.
In excellent condition, with signs of wear consistent with age. Low pile with a sturdy handle.
