This Deco rug was handwoven during the 1930s in Tientsin, China.
It features a maroon ground with a calm mauve border. The design is directional and whimsical which is not restrained by the border. Across the bottom are a variety of lively scholar stones, various vegetation, and even a small bird. Large palmettes blossom from curving vines around the perimeter and two lanterns hang to the right side of the rendering. Truly a statement piece, this rug will liven up any room.
In good condition. Overall wear and visible cotton dots from the foundation. Dense and durable with a heavy handle. Old patches using other rugs can be seen in the closeup images.
