A restrained and graphic Palestinian thobe from the Beersheba and Negev Bedouin region, distinguished by its dark ground, linear embroidery, and emphasis on structure rather than surface density.
Embroidery is sparingly but decisively applied, focusing on the chest, sleeves, side panels, and hem. Angular zigzags, stepped triangles, and linear motifs are arranged in bold vertical registers, while the chest features a sharply defined V-shaped yoke edged with serrated borders. Decorative stitching along seams further articulates the garment’s architectural form and movement.
Thobes from the Beersheba and Negev region reflect Bedouin traditions that favored clarity of design and durability suited to pastoral life. Rather than dense surface coverage, embroidery here communicates identity through placement, rhythm, and motif, signaling tribal affiliation and personal expression.
In very good condition with wear consistent with age, including light softening of the ground fabric. Embroidery remains clear and well preserved.
