This Phulkari was embroidered in the Punjab region during the early to mid-20th century.
Phulkari is a traditional folk embroidery style from the Punjab region, which spans both India and Pakistan. It is composed of colorful silken thread atop rough cotton cloth. This Phulkari was embroidered in silk floss on multiple red cotton strips and features a striking composition of kaleidoscopic floral medallions arranged in a dense grid. Finished with skirt borders of interlocking motifs, including zoomorphic bird-like figures on one end. Highly contrasting tones of fuchsia, saffron, pistachio, ivory and amethyst pop and make this an exciting piece.
