This soumak runner was handwoven in the Caucasus during the first quarter of the 20th century. 

Handwoven in soumak construction it features a repeat geometric pattern in rich jewel tones of reds, pinks, blues, greens, and yellow with accents of ivory and brown. Nicely framed by a wide main border of alternating palmettes and serrated leaves and finished with a minor "running dog" border. The distinctive running dog border is well documented in Seychour rugs of the Northeast Caucasus where Russia and Azerbaijan meet. In a rare hard-to-find runner size. 

In very good condition with minimal wear for its considerable age. Flatwoven, with a solid handle.
