This Nakshi Kantha was crafted in Bengal during the 19th century.
Kantha is a Bengali folk tradition of embroidering textiles using recycled cloth. This Kantha features a representation of Kali the Hindu goddess of power, time, change, creation, and destruction. Durga has transformed into Kali who has gone on a rampage destroying the universe. She is seen holding the decapitated head of Mahishasura while those around her calm her including Shiva who is underfoot.
In very good condition for its age with some light wear to threads. Rare subject matter in Kantha.
