This Pre-Columbian textile panel dates from the Chancay period.
It features brown and beige trefoil pattern that meanders around alternating red, white and blue squares. The squares showcase interlocking patterns that alternate between birds and fish. The bird panel features the classic pre-colombian technique of contour rivalry which allows the rendering to be interpreted in different ways. Here the birds can be read as either outlined in white or in blue dependent on what the viewer focuses on. Very finely woven and well-preserved textile panel.
In very good condition for its advanced age.
