19th century square Kashmir kani shawl with dense red boteh (paisley) design, joined panel construction, and a central woven inscription cartouche in stylized Persian script, with intricate borders and multicolor fringe.

Antique Kashmir Shawl - 6'5 x 6'5

Regular price $950.00 Sale

A finely woven square Kashmir shawl composed of joined panels, forming a dynamic radial arrangement of interlocking boteh and scrolling vegetal forms. The composition draws inward to a central medallion featuring a rare woven inscription cartouche, likely incorporating a workshop signature or poetic device in stylized Persian script.

Executed in fine wool using the traditional kani technique, the shawl displays exceptional detail and a rich, saturated palette of madder reds, indigo, teal, and soft neutrals. The wide, densely ornamented border frames the composition, while the multicolored fringe provides a lively finish.

Both highly decorative and technically sophisticated, this piece reflects the height of 19th century Kashmir weaving tradition, with the central inscription adding a distinctive and uncommon element.
