This Khotan rug was woven in Northwest China, which is also known as East Turkestan, during the early 20th century.
This rug features a vibrant central medallion in soft purples, pink, yellow, and green atop a dramatic red field with diamonds and blossoming pomegranates. It showcases classic Khotan patterning which is a wonderful hybrid of both Central and Eastern Asian design elements like the lattice cornices, tri-color cloud band outer border, and Greek-key interior border which latch hooked elements more reminiscent of Central Asian rugs in the central border.
In Very Good condition. The pile is evenly worn and low but with a sturdy handle.
