Antique NW Persian Malayer area rug with colorful border and allover floral design

Antique Malayer Rug - 4'8 x 6'4

Regular price $2,200.00 Sale

This Malayer rug was handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.

This rug features a latticed grid of blossoming shrubs in reds, blues, golds, and ivory on a deep indigo field. Hidden within the balanced and consistent latticework are simple striped bird motifs. The border features a pattern of lively palmettes and serrated leaves on an ivory ground which contrasts nicely with the field. On deeper inspection further pairings of abstracted birds become apparent sitting atop the palmettes in the border. A great find all around with balanced composition, harmonious color usage, good age and condition.

In very condition, signs of wear are consistent with age. The pile is low, with a hefty handle.
