This dhurrie was handwoven in Northern India during the early 20th century.
It features a simple yet striking design of a prayer rug or "janamaz" format in a strong contrast of indigo, madder, and undyed cotton. The directional nature and large color blocks give it a very architectural feel. It was woven with a niche facing horizontally and most likely was one of many similar janamaz made on the same loom.
In good condition, some distortion, wrinkling, and crease wear. Also a small stain near the lower middle.
