This Khotan rug was woven in Northwest China, which is also known as East Turkestan, during the early 20th century. 

This rug features a grayish purple and yellow central medallion surrounded by butterflies and medallions atop a dramatic red field. It showcases classic Khotan patterning which is a wonderful hybrid of both Western and Eastern Asian design elements like the lattice cornices, tri-color cloud band outer border, and greek-key interior border. 

In excellent condition, signs of wear consistent with age. The pile is low, with a sturdy handle.
