Chinese Deco rug, handwoven in Tietsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This cheerful deco has a lustrous field that can look either a rusty orange or copper brown, depending on the light and direction of the pile. This color change gives the rug a depth of color that needs little embellishment. Exquisite floral sprigs are sparsely arranged throughout the field and border in a freeform manner. The border is a gorgeous petrol blue, which contrasts nicely with the rust color of the field.
In very good condition, signs of wear consistent with age. Pile is low and densely woven, with a sturdy handle. A very hardwearing rug.
