A wonderfully unusual handwoven rug with a soft aqua ground and an intricate allover network of small geometric forms in taupe, gray, and faded blue. The dense central field is surrounded by a much more open border populated with quirky, almost pictographic motifs in brick red and charcoal.
The palette is particularly appealing with powdery turquoise, warm stone, faded coral, and flashes of blue, all softened by subtle abrash. The contrast between the highly worked center and the spare, almost doodle-like border gives the rug a distinctly modern, graphic quality.
It is a substantial room-size piece with an unusually light and airy presence.
