This Mahal rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This rug features an all over pattern of various palmettes in greens, blues, coral and ivory on a brick-red field. The field and cornice design appears to be influenced by the classic herati design. The main border is also composed of a palmette motif, on a surmah ground. Various distinct minor borders add interesting detail and interest to the piece.
In good condition, structurally sound with visible but even wear throughout. One border area has been repaired in the past (as pictured) and has faded at a different rate than the original pile. Pile is thick but low, with a dense but malleable handle.
