This pictorial rug was handwoven in China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It features a rendering of the Eight Immortals sitting atop cloud bands and amongst vegetation. These famous figures are signs of prosperity and longevity and can be represented in many different manners and often including deities or attendants as seen here. Each immortal holds an object to identify themselves such as a flute (Han Xiangzi) or a lotus flower (He Xiangu).
In very good condition for its age. The pile is medium height, soft and plush, with a dense and heavy handle.
