This Deco runner was handwoven in Tietsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
It features a thin tree growing upwards in a very organic manner on a yellow ground. The branches are sparsely adorned with buds and blossoming rosettes. A blue bird is perched on one of the branches near the top as one yellow bird flies above it and another yellow bird flies below. It is framed by a navy border that is mostly open except for various auspicious symbols wrapped in bent ribbon cloud bands.
It must be noted that it is fairly unusual to find Deco rugs in this size and shape, as they usually were produced in larger 9x12 sizes.
In fair condition, visible damage and staining, overall wear particularly at the ends. All four sides have been reinforced for longevity. Low pile, very thickly woven, with a thick and heavy handle.
