This lovely chapan is crafted from crimson striped silk. It is embellished with fine black, white, and yellow embroidery around its perimeter and up the sides. The embroidery is well executed more ornate than is standard for this type. There are three lovely floral forms on the bottom right and left of the jacket that also set it apart. A blue printed liner adds another element of interest.

These trouser cuffs were handmade in Turkmenistan during the 20th Century. Turkmen women traditionally wear colorful ankle length dresses with baggy trousers in contrasting color and decorated bands. These trousers feature wonderful detailed embroidery bands near the ankles in blue, red, green and ivory on a magenta cloth.

This Yei rug was woven by Navajo weavers during the second quarter of the 20th century in the Southwest United States. The design of this rug is derived from Navajo sand painting. It features six “Yei” or holy people on a black background. The Yei alternate between orange and white and each is wearing turqoise necklaces and holds sacred eagle feathers.

It features a central medallion floating above an open turquoise ground and framed by a large and elegant border. The medallion and border are both composed of beautifully detailed floral sprays in pastel pinks, reds, seafoam green, copper, and gold and khaki.

Pictorial "Samarkand" Khotan Rug - 4'6 x 7'1

Like many Quchan weavigns it is influenced by the nearby traditions. The perfect combination of Baluch design sensibility and Kurdish use of color. Simultaneously simple yet visually complex it features a design of concentric diamonds created with blocks of color over a totemic latticework. Multiple reds and blues are joined by a lovely orange and a deep brown. Inspired by their Baluch neighbors, a striking ivory is masterfully used to awaken the piece and provide it's visual impact. This Vibrant Heriz Rug features a geometric central medallion with vibrant jewel tones and meaty wool. A tomato-red field is complemented by deep navy, powder blue, green, gold, coral, and ivory. The four ivory cornices invigorate the rug and wonderful jewel tones add flavor to the composition. It is framed by a main border of alternating palmettes and serrated leaves. In very good condition with minimal wear for its considerable age.
