An exceptional Shekarlu rug with an unusually elaborate striped field, alternating saturated madder-red and deep indigo panels packed with an astonishing vocabulary of small motifs. Trees, rosettes, comb-like devices, lattices, geometric medallions, animals, and tiny human figures appear almost like a woven archive of tribal imagery, with scarcely an inch left unconsidered.

Late 19th Century Shekarlu Qashqa'i Rug - 6' x 8'5

An exceptional Kurdish rug distinguished above all by its top-notch color and superb wool. The field is composed of lively diagonal bands, each carrying a different floral or geometric repeat and shifting through saturated brick red, deep indigo, grassy green, ivory, ochre, aubergine, and soft rose.

19th Century Colorful Kurdish Rug - 4'x 7'5

A richly patterned Soumak from the northeastern Caucasus, woven in the 19th century with an unusually varied assortment of boldly drawn floral and geometric forms.

The deep indigo field is densely populated with stylized palmettes, rosettes, blossoms and angular vegetal devices, individually rendered in saturated shades of madder red, blue, green, ivory and golden yellow. The floral vocabulary closely recalls the celebrated Kuba “blossom” rugs, whose fields are similarly animated by large, colorful palmett

Most compelling is the woven Armenian inscription, which appears to read:

“The rug of Satenik Abovian, in the year 1894.”

Late 19th Century Bidjar - 4'3 x 8'2

A wonderfully animated fragment of late antique Egyptian tapestry weaving, densely worked with stylized zoomorphic and vegetal forms with small geometric compartments in muted red, blue-green, rose, ochre, brown, and black.

The imagery is compressed into horizontal registers, with individual motifs appearing almost like tiny pictograms. Its fragmentary survival only heightens that quality, turning what was once part of a larger textile into an unexpectedly modern, almost collage-like compos

5th-7th Century Coptic Textile Fragment - 8" x 7"

A remarkably understated Coptic textile fragment, woven on a warm brown linen ground and patterned with repeated horizontal bands of small linked motifs in deep blue-green, with traces of red.

Rather than the bold tapestry panels more often associated with Coptic textiles, this piece has an appealingly spare, almost minimalist quality. The repeating forms create a quiet rhythm across the surface, their irregularities revealing the hand of the weaver.

5th-7th Century Coptic Textile Fragment - 14" x 9"

An exceptionally early Coptic textile fragment, woven more than 1,400 years ago, preserving richly patterned tapestry bands against a warm linen ground. Deep red fields are animated with scrolling vegetal forms and inset medallions containing highly stylized floral, animal, and possibly scarab-like motifs in ochre, green, cream, and dark brown.

The border system is exceptionally rich with meandering key-fret bands, lattice grounds,

This elongated brocaded panel reflects the celebrated weaving traditions of Samugheo, the Sardinian village renowned for its mastery of pibiones “grain” weave and richly patterned household textiles. The central field displays repeated diamonds enclosing stylized stars, while the end skirts feature rare anthropomorphic figures that read either as a man and woman in union or dancers repeated in procession-like rhythm. Their presence evokes fertility, marriage, and communal celebration, suggesting the textile
