This Turkmen rug was handwoven by the Yomud during the late 19th century in Central Asia.
It features an allover design of red and white "Chodor" guls in lattice formation on an aubergine ground. The field is framed by pinwheel palmettes and meandering vines on a bright ivory ground. The main border is drawn in thick ivory cursive against big blocks of green, orange, and aubergine. Wonderfully finished with multiple red and aubergine kilim skirt borders that are separated by the rare addition of fine pile woven bands with various protection symbols.
In very good condition for its significant age.
