This Art Deco rug was handwoven in Tientsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
This lively Deco rug features a water scene of various scholar stones, birds, and vegetation. The varied blues, greens, oranges, reds, and yellow really stand out against a calming periwinkle ground. Framed by an energetic inner border of varied blocks of red, oranges, and pink and well-spaced interlocking circles, the main border features the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism on a darker shade of periwinkle. A well-balanced and interesting piece highlighting the best aspects of Chinese Art Deco design.
In excellent condition for its age. Pile is medium height, soft and plush, with a dense and heavy handle.
