This vintage batik textile is an example of batik tulis—the traditional, hand-drawn wax-resist dyeing technique of Java, Indonesia. Hand-drawn in warm shades of soga brown and deep indigo on a soft ivory ground, the diagonal bands are filled with intricate botanical and symbolic detailing, forming a flowing rhythm that evokes both movement and balance.
