This Ersari Kapanuk was woven during the late 19th century along the Amu Darya river in Central Asia.
A kapanuk is a rug meant to hang around the tent door. It features a main panel of zoomorphic pinwheel devices and geometric rosettes. It is surrounded by blocks of color in blue, red, yellow, and a lovely reddish-brown. The center has long red and blue fringes hanging down and the sides feature beautifully braided tassels in reds, blues, yellows, and beige which triple the length of the whole piece.
In excellent condition, well cared for over its life with original fringes and tassels. Plush even pile, with a soft, floppy handle. A truly unique and one-of-a-kind collector's item.
