Soumak rug handwoven in the Caucasus during the second quarter of the 20th century.
Soumak weaving is achieved through extra warp wrapping, which gives it a particular look and feel typical of these kinds of rugs. This Soumak features three central medallions in blue on a brick-red field, with smaller medallions in between. The field is also filled with geometric shapes and symbols throughout. The border all features the traditional Soumak designs.
In fair condition, with wear throughout and in specific areas (pictured), the foundation is still intact. Flatwoven with a soumak weave, with heavy yet airy handle.
