Ende was an important trading post where many cloths were traded including Indian Patola. This cloth is highly influenced by Patola and was created using traditional ikat techniques. A tightly rendered repeat pattern is executed in cotton dyed with indigo and morinda with the cream tinged with morinda from the resist process. This elegant silk pha sin or traditional tube skirt was handmade northeast Thailand during the middle of the 20th century.

It is a masterful example of mudmee (ikat) weaving from the Isaan region. Woven entirely from fine silk, the textile features a mesmerizing field of diamond motifs arranged in vertical zigzag bands, subtly interlaced with red, gold, and deep aubergine tones against a near-black ground. The effect is one of shimmering depth and rhythmic precision.

Each design features one large person with another person inside among other symbols including lizards, horses and dragons. Atop the head is a hat of skulls with surrounding birds. The hands feature marks similar to stigmata and a crocodile sits atop each shoulder. Prominent near the legs is a large lobster and smaller monkeys.
