This American Hooked rug was handhooked in New England during the first quarter of the 20th century (1900-1925).  It features a pictorial design of two confronting dogs against a backdrop of trees. Wonderfully folky with a simple but effective use of perspective. The same pf dog is featured but subtle differences like the color of the collar and the different shape of the faces highlight the handmade nature and unique character that is desired in these pieces.

 needlepoint rug handcrafted in Europe.  Features a nighttime scene of foliage, moths and stars that wrap both above and behind a blue rectilinear form. It is simple and straightforward yet still striking in its warmth and beauty. The forms are impeccably executed and stand out against the backdrop that shifts from olive green to indigo and back to olive green. Look closely to see the renderign of shadows behind the leaves stars. Wonderful use of shading and dimensionality.

This Torba was handwoven by Tekke Turkmen Turkmenistan during the early 20th Century.  This trapping features a design of eight aina güls in earthy red, browns ivory and navy. Framed by a multitude of borders that include zigzags, flowers, diamonds and serrated leaves. A torba is a small storage used to both transport and store belongings that is similar to a chuval but not as deep. Polychrome knotheads remain of what were once long fringes.

A kapanuk is a rug meant to hang around the tent door.  main panel of meandering zoomorphic pinwheel devices and framed by various borders Wonderfully embellished of lustrous purply-pink silk and beautifully polychrome braided tassels and the inclusion of both wood and glass beads.

Trapping was handwoven by Ersari Turkmen in middle Amu Darya region of Central Asia during the 20th Century.  This trapping features an all over design of stepped diamonds in alternating earthy red and deep navy which is tightly rendered to hypnotic effect. macrame fringes that alternate between madder red and indigo. Likely made to hang on the wall or for a pack animal.

This trapping was handwoven by Ersari Turkmen around Middle Amu Darya in Central Asia during the 20th Century. The Ersari weavings from this region in this style are often referred to as Beshir. Features ikat-inspired güls in earthy reds, ivory, yellow, and navy. wonderful hanging fringe which alternates between madder red and deep indigo. Likely made to hang on the wall or for use on a pack animal. The top is finished with lovely brocaded embellishment.

This pictorial; rug was handwoven in China during the second quarter of the 20th century.   It features a rendering of the Eight Immortals sitting atop cloudbands and amongst vegetation. These famous figures are signs of prosperity and longevity and can be represented in many different manners and often including deities or attendants as seen here. The Each immortal holds an object to identify themselves such as a flute (Han Xiangzi) or a lotus flower (He Xiangu).
